Honestly? Not really.

BUT: There are a LOT of places you can get senior citizen discounts starting at 55. In some places, even if you are only 50.

is 50 a senior citizen at AARP?

#1 for senior citizen discounts. Is 55 a senior citizen here? You bet it is! And, they let you join at just 50 years old. Don’t miss out on this organization.

I can never say enough good things about this organization for seniors. The American Association of Retired Persons.

It is actually, as it says, an organization for “retired persons”. But, even if you are not retired, you get ALL the benefits with their simple membership.

AARP is the largest organization for older persons in the USA. If there is a benefit for seniors of any kind, anywhere, you will probably find it here. Or, you will find the links from this organization to the places that give you the senior discounts.

If you are 50 or over
you qualify for full membership benefits.

Is 55 a senior citizen anywhere else? You bet!

Here is an article from US News called: “The Financial Perks of Growing Older”.

In this article you’ll learn about ALL the many different areas in life where we start getting discounts starting at age 55. By the time we’re 65 we’re getting almost all of them.

There are actually so many Senior Discounts available, that we want you to know about. So, we have devoted an entire article on this subject for you called: “Getting Senior Discounts is Fun!”

You won’t get them all at 55 because, let’s be honest here, you’re not really considered a “Senior Citizen” in the USA until you’re 65 or older.

But, at 55, you still have a lot of benefits and special deals out there that you didn’t have before.

What About
Other Senior Benefits at 55?

Most senior benefits will begin at age 65.

However, as you learned above, there is an absolute plethora of discounts that come available at age 55.

Another thing you will find at age 55 is housing communities that cater to mature adults 55 and older. For some of us this is a big plus. You can move while you’re still young enough to move comfortably.

is 55 a senior citizen at senior communities?

Here are some of the benefits from seniors only communities:

  • Pay one monthly price for most of your expenses

  • Never worry about yard work or home maintenance again

  • You can make new friends  in your age group who have similar interests

  • Enjoy all kinds amenities and activities close to home

  • Move in while you're still “young” and very able

What kinds of activities for people 55 and over will you find in these communities? Take a look:

Swimming and water exercise classes

Yoga classes

Walking Clubs

Dance Classes

Exercise rooms with weights and aerobic machines (treadmill, elliptical machines, etc…)

Fitness classes

Crafts classes

Art classes

and many more….

senior community activities, yoga
senior community activities, tennis
senior community activities, bicycling
senior community activities, swimming

Not all communities will have all the activities. So, when you’re looking, be sure to ask what each community has available. For example if you’re looking to have a swimming pool or tennis court, etc… you’ll want to find that out before you fall in love with a new home anywhere.

And, there will not be resident children running all around all the time. Nights (and days) tend to be quiet and peaceful.

All this only for people who are 55 and older.
