What helps you look younger?
Boy oh boy. This is a question we seem to start asking ourselves when we reach 30. Right?
Now, we’re seniors. 65, 75, even 85…. Does it still matter?
What helps you look younger?
In our latest Survey of seniors aged 65 - 93, 81% of the women said looking younger was important. 43% of men said it was important.
Past the age of 80 only 3% (men and women combined) said what helps you look younger was important.
The thing is, we seniors are already the most beautiful people there are.
Yes, we are.
There’s no real need to look younger unless it gives you pleasure. What matters is being the best we can be right now. And, we can be pretty darn Awesome!!
Age brings Beauty?
How many of you think I have lost my mind??
Well, it’s true. Here’s why:
Contrary to everything we see on TV and in Magazines, age is a real gift. And, the looks that come with senior age are equally as beautiful as a new born baby’s skin. We'd look really ridiculous with that kind of skin at 65! Or, 85.
Yes, young people will always have the perfect skin, strong muscles, and high energy. But, that is God's gift to youth. Beautiful old people are, as Eleanor Roosevelt said, "works of art"!
“Beautiful young people are accidents of nature. But, beautiful old people are works of art.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
We seniors have all the major life experience, knowledge, more wisdom, compassion, and life lessons that only time can provide.
An older person, who feels good, radiates a certain Beauty that can not be compared.
That’s right. We seniors are Beautiful. Just as we are.
Every line on our faces was earned. Every silver and white hair. And, have you ever noticed that the smile on a happy old person’s face always seems to be as sweet as that of a very young child?
That smile is the key, the #1 thing, as far as what helps you look younger. Smiling will also improve your energy. Your disposition. Your zest for life!
Try it out. Spend tomorrow, all day, smiling at people and things. For no reason. All through the day. Whenever you think of it. Even if it makes you feel a bit stupid. And, it probably will. But, do it anyway. Just do it for one whole day. Tomorrow. See how you feel when it's time for bed. I think you'll be quite amazed. And, I'm sure you'll want to do it again.
What helps you look younger? It's not removing the beautiful lines and creases in our faces. Those are glorious strokes of Beauty!
Adding a genuine smile to our wonderful senior faces, being excited about life, living and doing things we enjoy with enthusiasm, that's "what helps you look younger".
Remember: We seniors are magnificent! And, we are Beautiful! Just as we are. And, we seniors are especially beautiful (and younger looking) with a little (or a big) smile on our faces!
Yes, there was a time when age was revered. And, in some parts of this world it still is. All the older civilizations valued their seniors as the most valuable persons in their societies.
Because the seniors in any society have all the experiences. Greater wisdom. A kind of knowledge that only real life experiences can bring.
Today, modern society is so caught up in wrinkle free skin and tight tummies that, as a society, we have too often forgotten what it is to be a human being. We seem to be educated that the changes we experience as seniors are a terrible thing. They are not. They are to be cherished. Like fine wine. Not feared. Heavens!
The Beautiful lines on our faces are no different than the magnificent bark of a Gorgeous old tree. They have the most wonderful history of Joy and struggle. Every single line comes from an enchanting story. Or, a struggle we won. Cherish them all.
Here’s the secret:
No matter what you do to your skin at 70, you’re never going to look 50 again. Much less 20. Right? So, if you’re in a skin competition, you’re sadly out of luck and destined to be miserable.
It’s not the smooth low wrinkle skin that helps you look younger. So, forget about that.
What helps you look younger?
As a young man I was an aspiring actor. A lost cause…. But, I always remembered my first acting teacher. Her name was Sonia Moore. She was quite famous at the time and it was a real honor to be one of her students.
At the time, I was 18. Ms. Moore was already a senor of 68 years. To someone 18, that seemed fairly ancient. Still, I thought she was the loveliest older woman I had ever seen. She seemed to glow.
She was slim. Stood straight as an arrow. Her hair and clothes always neat as a pin. She had a constant cup of tea near by. Sparkling eyes. Bright and as enthusiastic as a child’s. A great interest in all that was going on around her. And, a kind way of telling you when you had done an absolutely abysmal job on stage.
At 93, she still appeared a vibrant beautiful older woman. Full of Charm and Joy. And, she was still very much in demand for her deep understanding of theater and acting.
She never lost her love for theater and the stage. Her passion for it. And, I always thought it was her love of those things, and, her excitement about participating in those activities that gave her such great charm and vitality.
She had a glorious reason to get up each day. She had a passion!
That made her look younger than her years. There was always such a bright light in her eyes and a seeming love for life.
That “Joie de Vivre”, that joy of living, is what sticks in my mind to this day.
Here are some of our favorite quotes on what helps you look younger from some very famous seniors most of us know:
“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” ~ Sophia Loren
“Your 40s are good. Your 50s are great. Your 60s are fab. And 70 is f*@king awesome!” ~ Helen Mirren
“You don’t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing.” ~ George Bernard Shaw (quotes about growing old)
“Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been. ~ David Bowie
BEAUTIFUL WORKS of ART
“Elderly people are like plants.
Whereas some go to seed, or to pot, others blossom in the most wonderful ways.
I believe beauty competitions should be held only for people over seventy years of age.
When we are young, we have the face and figure God gave us.
We did nothing to earn our good looks.
But as we get older, character becomes etched on our face.
Beautiful old people are works of art.
Like a white candle in a holy place, so is the beauty of an aged face.”
~ James Simpson

What else helps you look younger?
Ladies: A little (yes, just a little) make up can brighten your eyes every bit as well as it brightens and highlights a woman at 20. A touch of lipstick can greatly refresh your smile and takes years off your age.
You simply have more beauty to offer, so, you need less make up these days. A touch of lipstick and maybe a little eye shadow is plenty.
But, what if you have a special event to go to and you'd like to really look extra specially dressed up? And, you haven't done any make up in quite a while. Well, here’s a VIDEO called, “Makeup for Older Women: Define Your Eyes and Lips Over 70".
This VIDEO will teach you just how to do appropriate beautiful make up for senior women. Not too much. Not too little. It's easy and fun. And, it looks great! Take a look:
Men: What helps you look younger? Simple: Wash you face, and shave off any hair that isn’t purposely decorating your face. Looking neat, sharp, and clean makes a difference.
The short stubble that looks great at 30? Forget about it. It just makes us seniors look like old men who are too lazy to shave.
In our Survey, 97% of the women said: "Clean and sharp" makes older men look more vibrant and younger.
And, for All of Us Seniors:
That’s what helps you look younger.
You've heard it before:
Wear the good shirt. The good shoes.
Your best suit. Your favorite dress…. Now. Today. For no special reason.
Put on a bit of perfume or cologne too.
Don’t save these things for “a special occasion”. Today IS a special occasion. Wear the good stuff. Wear it out. Don’t die with a closet full of nice stuff you never got to enjoy.
The Most Important Thing Is:
The joy you have each day,
your enthusiasm and passion for living,
that is what helps you look younger
more than anything else can.
